The push to #SaveOurEnvironment is not only about protecting our forests and safeguarding our drinking water. It’s also about ensuring that all North Carolinians, no matter where they live or who they vote for, have an ideal quality of life. This is why we at NCLCV work at the state level to see strong environmental policies passed – policies aimed at protecting North Carolina’s natural resources and the health of our communities.
To us, advocacy looks like holding our elected leaders accountable.
To us, advocacy looks like holding our elected leaders accountable. As an organization, we do this at the NC General Assembly during legislative sessions, serving as a strong, professional, and pragmatic voice on behalf of the environment. We work in coalition with other environmental and allied groups to leverage our power.
For NCLCV members, advocacy looks like staying informed about the issues that impact you and your families. Each week, we release our Conservation Insider Bulletin that touches on the most pressing news and politics impacting our environment. During legislative sessions, we track various bills and target our legislators on critical legislation through our Hotlist – a weekly e-newsletter for NC’s elected officials, helping them make informed decisions about environmental policies, And at the end of each session, we create our Legislative Scorecard. This Scorecard serves as a record of legislators’ votes on key environmental bills and is the clearest indicator of whether they value conservation and protecting North Carolina’s natural identity.

Finally, advocacy also means taking action when called upon to ensure our environmental values remain a priority. Whether it’s a policy regarding clean energy, coal ash, or fracking, you can be sure that we will call on you, as a North Carolinian, to bring your voice to the table. While we partner with many environmental and conservation groups on a variety of issues, NCLCV brings invaluable political expertise and perspective to our advocacy work. We understand the intricacies of the political landscape in which all environmental decisions are being made, and take a pragmatic approach to improving our environmental protections at the General Assembly.
