Dan Bruer has more than 20 years’ experience serving people, community, and causes through strategic philanthropy, currently with Amplify Retail Consulting. He has developed strategies and programs in support of billion-dollar research university campaigns, national disaster relief efforts in excess of $50 million, and regional and coastal land and water conservation initiatives. He has guided development of POS/CRM programs, employee giving and advocacy, customer and community engagement initiatives with companies such as Walmart, Lowe’s Home Improvement, McDonalds, State Farm, and Burt’s Bees. Previously, he served as Director of Development for the Surfrider Foundation, Vice-President of Mission Advancement for the American Heart Association, the President of the Frankie Lemmon School and Developmental Center in Raleigh, and as the Raleigh-based major gifts officer for the national LCV. Dan first learned about fundraising and campaign management as a college intern with a political consulting firm in Missouri, where he later held staff positions on Missouri House and Congressional campaigns. Dan studied Sociology and Political Science at Missouri State University, and did graduate studies in Sociology at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
