Campaign Watch: LCV, Conservation Votes Announce New Efforts

Last week, both the national League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Victory Fund and the North Carolina state-level Conservation Votes PAC announced major investments to support pro-environment candidates in several key races.

LCV Victory Fund announced a $266,000 independent expenditure investment opposing the re-election of incumbent U.S. Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC13). The group called Budd out for “consistently siding with corporate polluters, compromising public health and North Carolina’s environment.” National LCV had previously endorsed Budd’s challenger, Kathy Manning.

At the state level, Conservation Votes reported a separate $1.3 million independent expenditure campaign in support of challengers in six state House districts: Marcia Morgan (HD19 versus Ted Davis, New Hanover), Leslie Cohen (HD20 versus Holly Grange, New Hanover), Terence Everitt (HD35 versus Chris Malone, Wake), Sydney Batch (HD37 versus John Adcock, Wake), Erica McAdoo (HD63 versus Stephen Ross, Alamance), and Ray Russell (HD93 versus Jonathan Jordan, Ashe / Watauga). The PAC is running ads on TV and digital venues, which you can watch here.

LCV also put Malone on its national Dirty Dozen in the States list of the worst anti-environmental state legislators in the country.

You can find all the NCLCV Conservation PAC state legislative endorsements here. NCLCV recommends keeping these pro-conservation candidates in mind when you vote.

(NCLCV Conservation PAC and the Conservation Votes PAC are separate entities. NCLCV Conservation PAC contributes directly to candidates’ campaigns. Conservation Votes PAC makes independent expenditures which by law cannot be coordinated with candidates’ campaigns.)
