The Trump Administration is working to undermine the landmark National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the historic law which for decades has required federal agencies to study and account for the environmental impacts of projects they sponsor or approve.
Trump wants to short-circuit full environmental reviews by artificially speeding up the study completion deadlines, no matter how big the project or complex its study requirements may actually be. He also wants to eliminate the study of cumulative impacts — essentially eliminating the consideration of long-term climate impacts.
These changes would be especially damaging to environmental protection efforts nationwide and in North Carolina, including truncating the review of fossil fuel leasing, drilling, and pipelines. That’s why environmental advocates are fighting back against Trump’s attempt to gut critical public health protection. We encourage you to engage in the resistance by submitting public comments opposing the changes.
