Campaign Watch: Filing Closes and All Seats Are Contested
Campaign 2018 has already made history in North Carolina. For the first time in memory, every legislative district in the state will be contested in November. No free rides for incumbents means more opportunity for conservation advocates to make our case for policies promoting clean air, water, land, and public health.
A late rush of filers last week closed the remaining gaps before candidate filing ended at noon last Wednesday. State political observers raised their collective eyebrows at the surprising strength of competition.
Since a number of district lines around the state have changed this year, we encourage voters to look up your districts now, so that you can take a look early at your voting choices. Voters should be aware as well that if your district has changed, your county Board of Elections should be sending you a new voter registration card in the mail, so be on the lookout for that.
The official state list of candidates is available here.
NCLCV will be vetting the candidates carefully this year, and expects to have recommendations for environmental voters in both the primary and general elections of 2018.
