Stein Celebrates Solar Manufacturer Opening

Governor Josh Stein last week helped celebrate the opening of a large new solar module manufacturing plant in North Carolina.

Boviet Solar’s new $294 million solar module factory in Greenville, NC, is projected to create 900 jobs in its first North American plant producing solar panels and photovoltaic cells. Boviet was founded in Vietnam and has become a leading solar manufacturer with commercial, industrial, and residential customers in the United States.

“North Carolina continues to be a leader in the clean energy economy, and I am proud to welcome Boviet Solar as it opens its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Greenville,” said Stein. “As our state grows, so do our energy needs. I look forward to partnering with Boviet Solar to strengthen our workforce and build stronger clean tech infrastructure in North Carolina.”

Clean Energy Leader

“With nearly 110,000 people working in our clean energy sector, North Carolina ranks ninth in the nation for clean energy jobs,” added N.C. Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley. “Boviet is a powerful addition to our supply chain that includes a roster of 220 solar companies that are helping to provide more low-carbon energy sources.”

Additionally, North Carolina ranks first in the nation for rural clean energy jobs, showing our dedication to making a just and sustainable energy transition. And we at NCLCV are helping with that transition.

Helping NC Benefit from Clean Energy

One of the ways we’re helping communities thrive in the growing clean energy economy is through Energy Funds For All. This program and website connect people across our state—from the mountains to the coast—with clean energy grants, tax credits, and resources. Thanks to this work, families and businesses are cutting their energy use, saving money, and shrinking their carbon footprints. Since the launch of our website in January 2024, we’ve had over 25,000 unique users, hosted over 40 community events, and helped over 250 residents access available clean energy funds.
