Campaign Watch: Green Ties & Green Caucus

A Green Caucus is coming to the North Carolina General Assembly.

In front of over 200 attendees at the 2018 NCLCV Green Tie Awards event last Wednesday, our honorees announced that they and NCLCV would formally establish the caucus. NCLCV will be working this year and in coming years to grow the caucus into a majority caucus so that it can advance a pro-environment agenda instead of playing defense.

North Carolina First Lady Kristin Cooper welcomed participants, spoke about the work her office is doing to promote sustainability, and congratulated the award winners.

Green Tie Award winners for 2018:

  • Representative of the Year Deb Butler
  • Senator of the Year Erica Smith
  • Catalyst Award: GenX researchers Detlef Knappe and Larry Cahoon
  • The Joe Award (presented to a former or retiring legislator): Former Sen. Angela Bryant
  • Rising Star Awards: Representatives John Autry, Cynthia Ball, Chaz Beasley, Mary Belk, MaryAnn Black, Terry Garrison, Joe John, Marcia Morey, Amos Quick, and Billy Richardson
