Felon Trump Begs for More Oil Cash

A Look into what Donald Trump’s Felony Conviction could mean for the environment

Will Donald Trump’s criminal conviction on 34 felony counts in a New York courtroom have any effect on the election and on our environment? One thing is clear: As Trump’s need for criminal defense money has grown, his promises to Big Oil have become more brazen.

The week before his conviction, Trump told oil executives at a fundraiser May 22 in Houston that if returned to office, he could help get their merger and acquisition deals approved by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). This comes on top of the now-infamous meeting at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida. That’s where he asked fossil fuel executives for a billion dollars in campaign contributions to help him return to the presidency, allowing him to reverse Biden Administration climate change policies that regulate their pollution.

Oil Executives Drafting Orders for Trump

“Donald Trump is telling us who he is, again. He is enthusiastically bartering away the progress Joe Biden has made creating clean energy jobs, lowering costs, and protecting the planet for future generations in exchange for campaign cash from Big Oil,” said Pete Maysmith, the League of Conservation Voters’ (LCV) Senior Vice President for Campaigns. “Lawyers for oil executives have started drafting executive orders for Trump to sign if re-elected to roll back the monumental strides Joe Biden has made on building a clean energy future. Two things are clear—the oil and gas industry will do everything in their power to roll back the historic climate progress made by Joe Biden to build the clean energy economy and finally hold polluters like Big Oil accountable; and Trump will always put Big Polluters and Big Oil ahead of protecting our families, our communities, and our planet.”
