Education & Resources: Key Report on Emerging Contaminants Released
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) last week released an overdue report on the human health dangers from the category of “emerging” water pollutants, which includes GenX. The draft report shows that these toxic substances can pose a danger in much lower concentrations than regulators had previously acknowledged.
The study was prepared by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR). In January, a White House internal email referred to the report as a “potential public relations nightmare.” A month ago, a bipartisan group of legislators called on EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt to release the report.
