The North Carolina Environmental Management Commission will hold a special public meeting this Tuesday, July 13, to consider a petition to limit carbon dioxide pollution from the electric power sector by adding our state to the multi-state climate coalition known as the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI).
The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in Raleigh. You may attend in person or view it online here!
RGGI allows member states’ power producers to buy and sell carbon emission credits using a market process to finance the most efficient and effective emission-reduction efforts. Membership currently includes every New England and Mid-Atlantic state from Maine to Virginia, with the exception of Pennsylvania, which is also considering membership now.
