Have you been following the proposed cleanup requirements for the site responsible for GenX contamination in the Cape Fear River basin? Then now’s your chance to submit a public comment to let the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) know what you think.
Since 2017, Chemours has been prohibited from discharging wastewater into the Cape Fear River from its plant near Fayetteville. The draft permit now under review deals with a new system for treating contaminated groundwater from the plant’s site. That treatment intends to reduce the pollution that still leaves the site from the already-contaminated groundwater.
For more detailed information about the permit and how to submit your comment, see this article. Public comments are due by August 10.
