Last week Governor Roy Cooper declared September 25-29, 2023, as Clean Energy Week in North Carolina.
In his proclamation, Cooper cited a history of over $31.3 billion of economic investment in clean energy in North Carolina over the past 15 years; his Executive Order 80 to Address Climate Change and Transition to a Clean Energy Economy; and the 2021 bipartisan energy law requiring regulated utilities to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 70% by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050; as well as other major investments in offshore wind, solar energy, and related efforts.
NC League of Conservation Voters (NCLCV) Clean Energy Campaigns Director, Meech Carter, commended the declaration, and added, “With this progress in mind, we call on all branches of the North Carolina government to commit to renewable energy. We can and must do better for North Carolinians, and it begins here. Governor Cooper, the North Carolina General Assembly, and all public officials serving our communities must both talk the talk and walk the walk on clean energy.”
