Supreme Court Could Gut Clean Water Laws

On October 3, the U.S. Supreme Court is scheduled to hear oral arguments in a case which could be used to drastically cut back on the waters and wetlands protected by the landmark national Clean Water Act.

The case is Sackett v. EPA, and it could become the next vehicle for the new right-wing supermajority on the Court to reverse decades of precedent in order to throw key environmental safeguards down the drain. Citizen environmental groups are involved in ‘friends of the court’ briefs and following the case with great concern.

The Citizen Voter Movement (CVM) is working to educate the public on the issues involved, through its Protect Our Waters Campaign. Their resource guide is useful for advocates and groups interested in assisting in that work.
