Judicial Watch: Duke Releases Coal Ash Spill Impact Maps

Judicial Watch:   Duke Releases Coal Ash Spill Impact Maps

Now North Carolinians downstream of Duke Energy coal ash pits can find out how deeply they’d be buried under toxic coal ash if the upstream pit dam fails.

The maps were released in response to threatened litigation by the Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC). The detailed estimates calculate how much ash would be unleashed by a failure, where it would go, and how fast it would get there (as little time as two minutes in some cases).

We don’t think this qualifies as news to help coal ash pit neighbors sleep better at night, but it does help communities better understand the threat of Duke’s failure to clean up these pits and reduce the risks from them.
