Candidate filing begins Monday, December 4th. Here is everything you need to know.
Candidate filing begins for state, national, and local offices on the 2024 ballot at noon of Monday, December 4. Filing runs through noon on Friday, December 15.
Among the state offices on the 2024 ballot critical to the future of natural resources, public health, pollution control, and the climate crisis in North Carolina are governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and all 170 members of the state legislature.
Noteworthy candidate announcements have already begun and are likely to continue for the next two weeks. Both Republican and Democratic parties will have contested primaries on the state ballot for the top three spots: governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general. And given the changes in appointment powers to relevant regulatory bodies enacted this year, two Council of State offices — the Insurance Commissioner and the Commissioner of Agriculture — are also important.
