Judicial Watch: Conservation Voters Sue to Protect our Coast
The national League of Conservation Voters (LCV) is challenging in court the Trump order attempting to revoke permanent protections from offshore drilling for critical Arctic and Atlantic coastal areas.
For the first time in its history, LCV will be the lead plaintiff in a policy lawsuit. It is joined by a coalition of conservation and indigenous organizations in the action, filed in federal district court in Alaska by attorneys from the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and Earthjustice.
This unusual step by LCV signaled both the importance of the policy and resources at stake and the confidence of conservationists in the strength of their case for protection of those resources.
The North Carolina League of Conservation Voters (NCLCV) is one of many state LCVs and other groups nationwide which have co-signed a letter to the Secretary of the Interior in opposition to expanded oil and gas drilling and seismic testing in the public waters off our nation’s sensitive coastlines. NCLCV has been active on the state level in the fight against drilling off North Carolina’s coast.
