Executive Watch: NC Joins Climate Action Pact

Last weekend, North Carolina joined with 14 other states in the U.S. Climate Alliance, a coalition of states committed to working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Paris climate agreement.

In announcing his action, Gov. Roy Cooper explained, “In the absence of leadership from Washington, North Carolina is proud to join the U.S. Climate Alliance, and we remain committed to reducing pollution and protecting our environment. Clean air and a healthy environment are vital for a strong economy and a healthier future. So much of North Carolina’s economy relies on protecting our treasured natural resources, and I’m committed to maintaining the quality of the air we breathe for generations to come.”

While the politicians currently running Washington continue to try to drag America’s environmental role backward, our state governor’s action shows the kind of real leadership needed—and being found—at the state, local, and private levels around our nation.
