Common Sense Energy Efficiency

Energy Efficiency in Buildings

On July 5, 2024, Governor Cooper vetoed SB 166. In his statement he said: “By limiting options for energy efficiency and electric vehicles, this legislation prevents North Carolina’s building code from adopting innovations in construction and mobility that save consumers money. This bill also removes subject matter experts from the building code council, including architects, active fire service, a coastal expert, local government officials, and public at large membership, and limits the knowledge and practical experience of the body tasked with ensuring all buildings are safely designed.”

Additionally the bill rolls back fire safety measures and inserts developers influence on the state’s appointed Building Code Council. Join us in asking legislators to uphold these common sense measures and help NC improve our energy efficiency. It’s imperative that North Carolina’s energy codes are updated so that community members aren’t shouldering the cost of higher energy bills.
