Conservation Votes PAC Reports $3.3 Million Campaign
To Elect Environmental Leaders Stein, State House Candidates
Raleigh, N.C. –
Today, the North Carolina League of Conservation Voters (NCLCV), through its independent expenditure PAC, the Conservation Votes PAC (CVP), reports spending almost $3.3 million to elect Josh Stein as governor and other environmental leaders to the NC State House of Representatives. The CVP spent over $660,000 to deliver over 750,000 pieces of mail to NC voters, nearly $1 million to knock on over 150,000 doors, and over $1.6 million to create and distribute various digital ads. These ads can be seen at the CVP YouTube channel. In total, CVP invested in six general election races and two primary election races:
General Election
A.G. Josh Stein v. Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson – Governor
Dante Pittman v. Rep. Ken Fontenot – House District 24
Bryan Cohn v. Rep. Frank Sossamon – House District 32
Evonne S. Hopkins v. Mike Schietzelt – House District 35
Beth Gardner Helfrich v. Melinda Bales – House District 98
Nicole Sidman v. Rep. Tricia Cotham – House District 105
Rep. Lindsey Prather v. Ruth Smith – House District 115
Primary Election
Rodney Pierce v. Rep. Michael Wray – House District 27
James Adams v. Rep. Cecil Brockman – House District 60
The CVP was instrumental in electing Cooper governor in 2016, and re-electing him in 2020. Additionally, the CVP has played a pivotal role in electing pro-environmental leaders to the General Assembly since 2016.
Separately, the NCLCV’s coordinated PAC, Conservation PAC, contributed over $65,000 to other endorsed candidates and environmental champions, including some candidates with a lifetime score of 100 on their annual scorecard.
“At a time when our state is reeling from the destruction of Hurricane Helene, we are working to elect leaders who will address the underlying causes of climate disasters,” said Dan Crawford, NCLCV’s director of governmental relations. “Being born and raised in the mountains, I mourn the lives lost and the lives that have been uprooted by this disaster. I see all this devastation and am reminded of why we at NCLCV do this work. Until the pro-polluting majority takes climate change and other environmental threats seriously, we will seek to replace them with leaders who will take action to protect our communities, our families, and our children’s futures.”
