RALEIGH: Dan Crawford, director of governmental relations with the NC League of Conservation Voters, issued the following statement in response to the Governor’s office formally revoking Chemours permit to discharge any and all pollutants into the Cape Fear River:
“We applaud Governor Cooper and the team at the Department of Environmental Quality for their swift action to hold a bad actor accountable for gross negligence of its corporate responsibility.
Chemours should have immediately come clean after last month’s spill of dimer acid fluoride into the Cape Fear River. Instead, the polluter knowingly dragged its feet for an entire month, putting the health and safety of nearby residents and our natural resources in jeopardy. This company has proven time and time again that it acts only in its own self-interest.
Fortunately, this administration refuses to let Chemours off the hook for the damage it continues to inflict upon a main source of drinking water for thousands of North Carolinians, a critical driver for our state’s economy, and a vital home for countless ecosystems and wildlife.”
