CHARLOTTE – Yesterday, more than 75 business and environmental leaders gathered in Charlotte to join the North Carolina League of Conservation Voters in honoring board member and environmental champion Everett Bowman with the 2014 Catalyst Award.

The Catalyst Award is presented to leaders who have taken exceptional action to create change and bring attention to important environmental issues. Past award recipients include Governor James B. Hunt, Attorney General Roy Cooper, Congressman G.K. Butterfield, and journalist Sue Sturgis from the Institute for Southern Studies.

Bowman, a Charlotte resident who grew up enjoying our coastal resources in Wilmington, NC, has served on the board of NCLCV since 2011. Carrie Clark, executive director of NCLCV, noted: “Everett came to us because he cares deeply about the environment. He paddles our North Carolina waterways, and he believes that we need to take responsibility locally and globally to protect our world for future generations.” She added, “He knows that we have to elect the right people to office who will share this responsibility.”

Bowman said, “I joined the NCLCV board because I believe strongly that environmental protection and conservation are the most important issues that our country and world are facing. We owe it to future generations, and to other species as well, whose fate is in our hands, to elect legislators – whatever their political party or affiliation – who will advance these goals. From protecting air and water to fostering development of clean energy, who we elect matters,”

NC League of Conservation Voters is a statewide environmental advocacy organization dedicated to protecting, preserving, and enhancing North Carolina’s natural environment. NCLCV has been working to protect North Carolina’s environment and our citizen’s health for over 45 years, turning environmental values into North Carolina priorities. NCLCV’s vision for the future of North Carolina is that all citizens and our elected decision-makers will better understand and appreciate North Carolina’s unique natural environment, and the integral role it plays in North Carolina’s economy and quality of life.
