#WhatIsLoveIn4Words

If you hear the word “tweet,” which image comes to mind:

If you conjured up the vision of the social media platform, than you may be well familiar with the concept of a hashtag. Essentially, Twitter allows its users to create searchable content by simply inserting a “#” in front of the text. Most news outlets, major corporate brands, and national events create hashtags for people to follow and engage with their content.

If something is trending on Twitter, that means thousands or tens of thousands of people are using the same word or phrase behind the # symbol. Not all hashtags “trend.” In fact, very few do.

Sadly, another trending topic across the country right now is #ChapelHillShooting in response to the tragic murder of three young people in Chapel Hill on Tuesday evening.

This week, in light of the upcoming Valentine’s Day holiday, the hashtag #WhatIsLoveIn4Words took Twitter by storm. It’s almost akin to an online rally where everyone is saying (partly) the same chant. Just through text, not voices.

Some Twitter users offered their adoration of pizza. Domino’s tweeted:

Others mention hugged their children, the hope of summer’s return, and the recently leaked trailor of season 3 of Netflix’s House of Cards.
