Executive Watch: Cooper Names Leaders for Natural and Cultural Resources
A State House veteran and a land trust leader will team up to oversee the department housing our state parks, natural heritage and farmland preservation programs, environmental education facilities and historic sites.
Gov. Roy Cooper named Rep. Susi Hamilton (D-New Hanover) as the next Secretary of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. Reid Wilson, executive director of the Conservation Trust for North Carolina, will become the department’s first Chief Deputy Secretary.
NCLCV’s Director of Governmental Relations, Dan Crawford, praised the new leadership team: “Representative Susi Hamilton and Reid Wilson are two impressive leaders who will bring a wealth of conservation and economic development experience to our state’s Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. Both dedicated public servants have prioritized preserving North Carolina’s natural heritage throughout their respective careers. Rep. Hamilton led the fight to maintain our state’s historic preservation tax credit while Reid, in his role at Conservation Trust for North Carolina, increased protected land along our state’s treasured Blue Ridge Parkway as well as historic farmlands throughout our agricultural communities.”
“The Department of Natural and Cultural Resources has the responsibility to ensure current and future generations of North Carolinians have the opportunity to learn about and experience the natural wonders of our state. Susi Hamilton and Reid Wilson are the right people to ensure that mission is accomplished.”
