Around the Globe: Trump Isolated on Climate Agreement
Among leaders of the world’s 20 largest industrial nations, Donald Trump remains the sole denier of shared international responsibility to address climate change.
At the 2017 meeting of the G20 earlier this month, leaders of 19 of the 20 member nations jointly renewed their pledge to implement the Paris Agreement for action on climate change. (The Paris Agreement was negotiated last year and signed by then President Barack Obama. Trump has previously announced that his administration would begin withdrawing the United States from the agreement, a process that will take at least three years.)
This year’s host nation leader, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, emphasized that “the Paris Agreement is irreversible.”
