Cooper Administration’s Environmental Justice Push

Governor Cooper and His Administration Maintain Their Environmental Justice Push

Gov. Roy Cooper’s administration is continuing the work of implementing his historic executive order on environmental justice, issued last October.

Last week, the Governor’s Environmental Justice Advisory Council held a statewide virtual public hearing on a draft mapping tool designed to “provide information about environmental justice issues and help the public identify areas that need attention. People can explore the interactive map, which includes climate, demographic, environmental, transportation and health data and more.”

How to Get Involved

In addition to the virtual hearing already held, in-person forums to take public comment are scheduled for Asheville (Aug. 15), Warren County (Aug. 22), and Sampson County (Aug. 29), all from 5-7 p.m.  In addition, an in-person meeting of the Environmental Justice Advisory Council is scheduled for September 24 in Stanly County. Location details for these events are available here.
