Interior Calls for Comments on New Wind Leasing In Atlantic States

The drive to develop American wind energy resources has not paused for this year’s elections. In fact, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has just issued a call for public comment on possible commercial wind energy development in areas totaling 13.47 million acres off the coasts of Central Atlantic states from North Carolina to New Jersey.

The areas under review are collectively known as the Central Atlantic 2 Call Area. BOEM is seeking information and nominations of possible wind development lease tracts within the larger area. The agency says that the Call Area “is broad to allow for flexibility to minimize conflicts with other uses, such as commercial fisheries, military activities, and vessel traffic.”

The comment period is open for 60 days, starting on August 22 when the formal notice of the call for input was published in the Federal Register. Details of the process for submitting comments can be found here.
