Bill Nye (“The Science Guy”) headlined the launch of Climate Voters for Harris/Walz in North Carolina
Popular science educator Bill Nye (“The Science Guy”) headlined the launch of Climate Voters for Harris/Walz in North Carolina last week. The event connected to a broad national get-out-the-vote effort involving Climate Power, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) and other major climate and environmental groups.
The Climate Voters for Harris/Walz launch took place September 17 in Durham, hosted by the Harris campaign and NC Democrats. Speaking of efforts to control climate change and the 2024 elections, Nye said, “This is it, people. If we don’t do something about climate change this time, it ain’t gonna get done.”
Nye continued with an expression of support for the Harris climate platform, which he said “advances environmental justice, protects public lands and public health, increases resilience to climate disasters, lowers household energy costs, creates millions of new jobs and continues to hold polluters accountable to secure clean air and water for all.”

Also speaking at the Durham event were NC State Senator Natalie Murdock, NC State Representative Pricey Harrison, and Kinston City Council Member Chris Suggs. The event was part of a nationwide rollout of a voter engagement effort known as “Too Hot Not to Vote.”
In addition to Climate Power and LCV, the Too Hot campaign is sponsored by Clean Energy for America, Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) Action, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) Action Fund, Sierra Club, and The Wilderness Society Action Fund. The campaign will operate in 17 states including North Carolina, and include door-to-door canvassing, texting, letter-writing, phone banking and other tactics.
In a joint statement, the sponsoring groups said, “The stakes for our environment and climate have never been higher and the contrast could not be clearer this election. Our members across the country are all-in to elect climate champions up and down the ballot who will protect communities, clean air and water, and public lands, hold Big Polluters accountable, and build on the Biden-Harris administration’s historic progress towards a clean energy future with lower energy costs for families and well-paying clean energy jobs, while combating the climate crisis and environmental injustice.”
