RALEIGH, N.C. – In an election with many issues on the ballot, the environment was finally one of the deciding factors. NC League of Conservation Voters helped elevate conservation issues in key races which saw the defeat of three foes: Representatives Tim Moffitt, Nathan Ramsey, and Mike Stone. Both Rep. Moffitt and Rep. Stone earned a score of 0 out of 100 on NCLCV’s 2014 Conservation Scorecard, and Rep. Ramsey has a lifetime score of 20. Moffitt was also named to LCV’s “Dirty Dozen in the States” due to his reckless voting record to fast-track fracking, ignore coal ash contamination, and sell the citizens of Asheville down the pollution pipeline.

Of the 16 NCLCV endorsed NC Senate candidates, 8 were victorious. The NC House saw a more satisfying run with 18 of the 25 endorsed candidates claiming the win. The successful candidates also include 12 former recipients of an NCLCV Green Tie Award for their achievements and support of conservation efforts. A summary of the winning endorsed candidates is included below.

“This election proves that NCLCV is here for the long haul and we look forward to holding legislators accountable moving forward,” said Dan Crawford, director of governmental relations for NCLCV. “We’re already looking to the horizon of 2016 and making plans to up the ante in the next election.”
