Saying Goodbye: Alice Zawadzki

We want to take a moment to remember and rejoice in the life of one of our state’s most vivid and compassionate conservationists: Alice Zawadzki.

Alice was a strong voice for protecting North Carolina’s beauty in her work with the North Carolina Native Plant Society, Friends of Plant Conservation, Inc., Friends of State Parks, and many more. We felt fortunate to have Alice on our Foundation’s board, from the very beginning of our days as Conservation Council of North Carolina (CCNC).

She brought the same energy for defending our air, land, and water to other areas of her life: folk dancing, serving as a docent at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens, and being an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Raleigh. You can learn more about the life Alice led here.

We will miss Alice greatly and are grateful to have been graced by her zest for life (and fabulous hats)!
