Governor Stein Renews Call for Climate Action and Clean Energy

Gov. Stein Calls for Climate Action and More Clean Energy

Governor Josh Stein delivered a year-end statement renewing his call for climate action, clean energy, and affordable electric rates. He also addressed the approval of permits for the Mountain Valley Pipeline expansion.

“Protecting North Carolina’s air, water, and natural beauty is a priority for me. I wanted to share an update as we continue to move toward a clean, affordable, and reliable energy future,” declared Stein in an online statement December 20.

“In North Carolina, we know all too well the impacts of climate change and extreme weather,” he continues, “and that the world is inevitably moving away from fossil fuels and toward clean energy. Protecting North Carolina’s air, water, and natural beauty is a priority for me, and we have made some important strides.”

Energy Bills and Affordability

Governor Stein also called out the legislature and Congress for passing laws that are making our energy bills increase.

“The General Assembly overrode my veto on legislation that’s now going to increase costs on ratepayers by $23 billion over the next 25 years. That’s on the heels of of HR1, the federal reconciliation law that is estimated to raise electricity costs by nearly $500 annually within the next decade. These laws go backward when we need to go forward.”
