The national League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund has endorsed former state Supreme Court Chief Justice Cheri Beasley as one its first six non-incumbent U.S. Senate endorsements for 2022.
“After 18 years of a senator who votes against the environment 91% of the time, it will be a literal breath of fresh air to have a champion like Cheri Beasley representing our state in the Senate,” said our Executive Director Carrie Clark. “She has spent her life fighting for justice in our courts, and we can’t wait for her to bring that fight to Washington, especially for Black and Brown North Carolinians who have gone unrepresented in that body for so long.”
Polling in the contest continues to be close, with Beasley benefiting from her early consolidation of support for the Democratic nomination, while Republicans like former Gov. Pat McCrory and U.S. Rep. Ted Budd are locked in a nasty primary fight for their place on the November ballot. Beasley is now consistently leading all the Republican candidates in fundraising totals, banking resources for the general election while they spend money pounding each other. FiveThirtyEight.com data analysts rank North Carolina’s Senate race as one of seven contests likely to decide control of the chamber.
