Campaign Watch: Candidate Filing Starts Today
An environmentally critical legislative election year moves into its next phase today (Monday, February 12), as the filing period for General Assembly and many other offices opens at noon.
Uncertainty regarding the final legislative district maps for the year continued almost to the start of the filing period, as the US Supreme Court issued a partial stay last week on the new maps which had been ordered by a lower federal court panel. Some of the new districts will go into effect, while others are being held up on appeal.
The filing period for NC state legislative candidates is scheduled to run from noon February 12 to noon February 28. Judicial contest filings have been moved to June.
Conservation voters will be among those watching with great interest for their choices this year.
