Fight Duke’s Dirty Energy Rate Hike

Every Voice, Every Story Helps Fight for a More Affordable, Clean Energy Future for NC

We are fast approaching the opportunity to speak out in opposition to Duke Energy’s latest outrageous requests for rate hikes to boost their bloated profits and dirty energy plans.

“So many North Carolinians are feeling the strain of the rising cost of living, and our energy bills play a major part. Unfortunately, greedy Duke Energy is looking to raise our energy rates even higher. While families and communities are making hard decisions in their budgets, Duke Energy reported nearly $5 billion in profits. It’s clear that Duke Energy is prioritizing its shareholders while raising the cost for customers,” says Michelle “Meech” Carter, NCLCV Director of Clean Energy Campaigns.

“The good news is that we are not powerless,” she continues. “The NC Utilities Commission (NCUC) is in charge of regulating Duke Energy, and they are about to begin public hearings across our state. Every voice and story will help to hold this greedy monopoly accountable while fighting for a cleaner, more just energy future.”

Prepare To Speak Out

NCLCV has been tracking and reporting on Duke’s dirty energy construction plans and bloated profits since their rate hike request was announced earlier this year.

Now, we have in place resources to brief communities on the issues involved. Be prepared to speak out by attending a webinar hosted by the NC Conservation Network. Michelle “Meech” Carter, NCLCV’s staff expert, will present at the webinar and help prepare community members for the hearings.

How To Speak Out

There are three options for submitting your comments:

  1. In-person hearings are being held all across the state. Find the hearing closest to you! In person hearings require speakers to sign up in person.
  2. There are two virtual hearings, which accept registered speakers until one week before the hearing.
  3. The third option allows you to simply submit written comments online. Be sure to include the Docket number in your comments: E-2 SUB 1300 for Duke Energy Progress and Docket E-7 Sub 1276 for Duke Energy Carolinas.
