Report: More Work to Cut Emissions

The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy’s annual look at electric utilities’ plans to reduce climate-altering carbon emissions in the Southeast is now out. It shows more needs to be done, and faster.

On the upside, power generation emissions have fallen sharply from their 2007 peak. However, that leaves transportation as the largest single source of carbon pollution. One core strategy in cleaning up transportation-sector emissions is the transition to electric vehicles, and an essential part of making that transition climate-friendly is to ensure clean energy provides the electricity source to charge those vehicles.
