LCV Endorses Cal Cunningham

Cal Cunningham

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund has endorsed former North Carolina state senator Cal Cunningham for the U.S. Senate. Cunningham is seeking the Democratic nomination to challenge incumbent U.S. Sen. Thom Tillis in 2020.

“As an Army veteran and environmental entrepreneur, Cal Cunningham knows firsthand the national security and economic threats posed by the climate crisis,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “Cal is committed to building a clean energy economy in North Carolina and across the country, and he has the experience to lead the way forward on solutions. That is why we are so thrilled to endorse Cal for the U.S. Senate.”

In the state Senate, Cunningham co-sponsored the landmark Clean Smokestacks Act, which launched major cleanups of North Carolina power plant emissions. He later helped lead a nationally recognized solid waste reduction company. And before launching his current campaign, he served for over a year on the North Carolina League of Conservation Voters (NCLCV) board of directors.

“Cal Cunningham has been a key ally in the fight to protect our state’s air, water, lands, and healthy communities,” said NCLCV Director of Governmental Relations Dan Crawford. “North Carolinians are already suffering from climate-fueled extreme weather, and understand we need leaders who will act on climate to protect our families and our future. We know we can count on him to also protect our economic future — to stand against drilling off our coast and to invest in good-paying clean energy jobs right here in North Carolina.”
