Tim Walz’s Background on Climate Action
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz became a leading champion for action on the climate crisis as he saw the real-world impacts of climate change hammering the people and economy of his state.
He saw dense smoke coming over the Canadian border from massive wildfires fueled by record drought and heat, which made the air in much of his state unhealthy to breathe. He saw warming winters melt the lake ice and snow on which much of Minnesota’s natural recreation and winter sports tourism depend. Common sense told him that his state needed to act in support of a solution. And under his leadership it has, with a plan to make the transition to all clean, renewable energy on an ambitious timetable.
Leadership for the Nation
America could learn a lot from Tim Walz’s Minnesota. And now, Tim Walz has been picked by Vice President Kamala Harris to join her on the Democratic ticket this fall.
“Congratulations to Governor Walz on joining this historic ticket!” said League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “Governor Walz made Minnesota a national leader in addressing the climate crisis, delivering historic legislation to achieve 100% clean electricity by 2040, to increase access to electric vehicles, to assess cumulative impacts in environmental justice communities, and to replace lead pipes to ensure clean water for all. We applaud Vice President Harris for choosing a running mate who shares her commitment to acting on climate and know that together, Kamala Harris and Tim Walz will build on the Biden-Harris administration’s historic progress on climate, clean energy, environmental justice, conservation, democracy, and so much more. LCV Action Fund is all-in to help elect them this November.”
Biggest Investment in Climate Action in US History
Walz inherits a legacy of aggressively addressing climate change. Two years ago this week (August 16, 2022), President Joe Biden signed into law the biggest investment in clean energy and climate action in US history. Known as the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the bill has had profound positive impacts on our nation and economy. North Carolina is reaping the benefits of these investments, including becoming #1 in the nation for rural clean energy jobs.
How to Get Involved
Harris-Walz represent our environment and our communities, while Trump-Vance represent big oil and corporate polluters.
