Slashing Carbon Emissions

New Report Shows U.S. Back on Track in Slashing Carbon Emissions

Climate legislation and pollution control standards adopted during the Biden-Harris Administration have put the U.S. power sector on track to make unprecedented progress in slashing carbon dioxide emissions, according to a new report released this month by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC).

“The actions taken by the [Biden-Harris] administration are bearing fruit, as we accelerate the move toward clean, affordable electricity,” said Amanda Levin, director of policy analysis at NRDC and author of the new study. “We need to build on this progress in order to create a real clean energy economy.”

According to the new analysis, the U.S. electric power-generating sector is now on track to achieve a 65% cut in carbon emissions by 2030, and an 80% cut by 2040, compared to carbon emissions in 2005. See the full report here.

Our Clean Energy Work & How To Get Involved

This great news underlines the importance of this year’s elections. And when it comes to state elections, nothing is more important than our Governor’s race. Not only is this the biggest governor’s race in the country, but it has lasting implications for addressing the climate crisis in our state. And the choices couldn’t be clearer.

Attorney General Josh Stein has repeatedly protected our environment against polluters, while his opponent, Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson, says climate change is “junk science.” Our state is in the top five states experiencing the most costly natural disasters caused by climate change. We need a governor who will act to protect our communities, not one that openly ignores the overwhelming evidence of a changing climate. Learn more about the governor’s race here, and help us elect Stein by donating today!

Clean Energy in Communities

We are currently working on two clean energy projects through our sister organization the NC League of Conservation Voters Foundation (NCLCVF). The first project seeks to hold Duke Energy accountable for their carbon emissions. Sign the petition to ask the NC Utilities Commission to reject Duke’s pathetic transition to clean energy.

The second project seeks to help families and communities access the vast amount of funding dedicated to support home and community clean energy projects. With our partners, we have launched Energy Funds For All. We have already seen families take advantage of these funds. Visit energyfundsforall.org to learn more.

All of this work is made possible by our donors. If our work is important to you, we ask that you become a monthly donor. Even $5/month can help us make a difference in our communities and in our state.
