Campaign Watch: Municipal Races Down to Final Week

Campaign Watch: Municipal Races Down to Final Week

We don’t have to wait until next year to impact public policy in our state by who we elect to office. Today (Monday, October 30) marks one week left in key city and town elections around North Carolina.

Many North Carolina voters will return to the polls next week for municipal elections.

Asheville, Burlington, Charlotte, Fayetteville, Greensboro, Raleigh and more, including smaller towns in many counties, will wrap up hot contests for mayors and council members on November 7. Early voting opportunities in these races in most communities will last until mid-day this Saturday, November 4. Voters who didn’t cast their ballots early will then have their last chance to vote on election day, Tuesday, November 7.

Keep in mind that who we elect at the local level impacts issues such as stormwater and wastewater treatment, parks and greenways, tree save ordinances, recycling programs, and clean transportation alternatives.

Still unsure who’s on the ballot or what they stand for? If you live in Asheville, Charlotte, Greensboro, Fayetteville, or Raleigh, Democracy North Carolina has posted independent, non-partisan voter guides for your communities’ 2017 contests online here.
