Judicial Watch: Supreme Court Delays Redistricting Order

Front-facing view of the United States Supreme CourtIn the latest twist on state legislative redistricting, the US Supreme Court has put the lower court order for new districts and elections in 2017 on hold, while it decides whether to hear an appeal of the order.

The one-paragraph order came in response to legislators’ request to halt the new redistricting and elections. The new delay will remain in effect unless the Supreme Court decides not to hear the legislators’ appeal, or otherwise rejects it. A decision on that could come from the Court any week.

Environmental and other public interest advocates continue to hope that new district lines will make many more legislative contests competitive, providing an opportunity for real public impact on who controls the NC General Assembly.
