Hotlist 7/8/2016: Accountability continues after session ends

Greetings:

The General Assembly has officially adjourned for the summer. Because of the rapid close to the session last Friday, lawmakers left several harmful bills on the table.

Before we celebrate, we need to acknowledge that this legislature put polluters before people when it passed House Bill 630 – “Drinking Water Protection / Coal Ash Cleanup Act” – which I wrote about last week, and the budget which holds provisions that prevent the cleanup of Jordan and Falls Lakes.

I would like to thank those who advocated for clean air and water for the citizens of North Carolina, and I encourage you to continue the fight in next year’s long session.

Regards,
