Obama Administration Prioritizes NC People Over Polluters in Federal Drilling Plans

Dan Crawford, director of governmental relations for the NC League of Conservation Voters, issued the following statement:

“Today, the Obama Administration transformed the concerns of North Carolina citizens into action by removing the Mid-Atlantic from the federal offshore drilling lease plans. Local elected officials, business leaders, retirees, students, and residents worked tirelessly over the last year to pass over 30 formal resolutions opposing offshore drilling. Tens of thousands of North Carolinians signed letters demanding that Governor McCrory protect critical coastal jobs and industries, including tourism and fishing, that support North Carolina families.

Despite such a massive public outcry, Governor McCrory remained committed to bringing offshore drilling even closer to our shores than the federal government proposed. Gov. McCrory chose to ignore, rather than protect, his constituents by siding with polluters over people, just as he has done throughout his time as governor. Fortunately, their voices reached the administration in Washington D.C., giving current and future generations of North Carolinians the opportunity to enjoy our precious coast.”
