Reps. Brockman And Wray Targeted in Primary Election, Wray Defeated
March 6, 2024
Last night Conservation Votes PAC split the two highly contested primaries they invested in, as they opposed two of the worst Democrats on the environment. In unofficial results in HD 27, 5-term incumbent Cecil Brockman sweated out a narrow 83 vote victory over James Adams. “It is clear the voters are disappointed in Rep. Brockman skipping work nearly 50% of the time and missing key votes. If his campaign had not been propped up by the Republicans who rely on him to enact their extreme agenda, this would have been a completely different outcome. If Representative Brockman wants to continue to disappoint his district by not showing up to work and not representing his constituents’ interests, we hope he enjoys his final term in office,” said Dan Crawford, Director of Governmental Relations for North Carolina League of Conservation Voters.
Voters in HD 27 were fed up with 10-term incumbent Michael Wray voting with Republicans 85% of the time, including half of the votes important to environmental voters, and in unofficial results handed award-winning educator Rodney Pierce a narrow victory. “Wray’s Republican cronies tried to pull the wool over the eyes of voters in HD 27 by spending heavily on his behalf, but in the end, the truth set the voters free. Let this be a message to elected officials: North Carolinians care about the environment and Conservation Votes PAC will hold you accountable for your votes on the environment, regardless of party affiliation,” said Crawford.
