Raleigh, NC – Yesterday, North Carolina League of Conservation Voters began an aggressive phone campaign encouraging concerned voters across the state to contact House Speaker Thom Tillis and Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger. Voters were given the opportunity to speak directly to the offices of Tillis and Berger about the unresolved coal ash legislation.

“The people spoke in our poll about their concerns remaining from the third largest coal ash spill in history,” said Dan Crawford, director of governmental relations for NCLCV. “We just gave them the opportunity to tell those who have the most power to make sure this doesn’t happen again in North Carolina.”

The poll released earlier this week finds that more than 75% of North Carolinians – across party lines – don’t think the legislature has made Duke Energy do enough when it comes to cleaning up this winter’s coal ash spill.

The phone campaign is part of a $1M issue advocacy campaign urging Representative Tillis, Senator Berger, and Governor McCrory to protect our drinking water from coal ash contamination. The campaign also includes the poll and recently aired ad, “Happened Here.” View the ad here.
