Citizen Action: Oppose Trump’s Oil Lobbyist
A broad spectrum of environmental groups oppose President Trump’s nomination of former oil company lobbyist David Bernhardt for Secretary of the Interior, the department that will soon unveil Trump’s offshore drilling plan. You can take action to stop his elevation to the post.
Since his appointment as Deputy Secretary of the department was approved last year, Bernhardt has helped implement expansion of oil leasing on public lands, and has pushed for expanded offshore drilling as well. He has called the Endangered Species Act an “unnecessary regulatory burden,” and has proposed rules to make it easier to de-list endangered species.
Bernhardt is rumored to have so many conflicts of interest from his previous work representing fossil fuel companies that he carries a list of them in his pocket.
If Bernhardt is confirmed, he’ll get to decide which of his former clients gets to drill…and where. Word from a Bernhardt underling is North Carolina will be included in the five-year drilling plan to be announced soon.
But Senators Richard Burr and Thom Tillis can stop that from happening by standing up for North Carolina. They will get a vote on Bernhardt’s nomination in the coming weeks, and you can tell them to protect our coast by voting against Bernhardt.
