Political Roadblocks Fail to Slow NC’s Clean Energy Boom
Congress, the Trump Administration, and the NC General Assembly have all been trying to pull us backward on clean energy. Trump is cancelling clean energy projects, Congress is repealing clean energy tax credits, and the General Assembly is abandoning bipartisan commitments to reduce
greenhouse gas emissions.
There’s a bright spot, though. In North Carolina, the market is telling them all to sit down and shut up –because investment in clean energy manufacturing is booming in our state.
Boviet Solar, which already operates a solar panel assembly plant in Greenville, has started construction of its photovoltaic cell manufacturing facility in Pitt County.
Gov. Stein Helps Power North Carolina’s Rapid Clean Energy Expansion
Meanwhile, Gov. Josh Stein and Charlotte officials said last week that Scout Motors (a startup electric vehicle maker backed by Volkswagen) will open its U.S. headquarters in east Charlotte. That headquarters is expected to bring with it more than a thousand high-paying jobs. The day after that announcement, Gov. Stein was in Randolph County to celebrate the grand opening of Toyota’s $14 billion electric vehicle manufacturing plant.
Clean energy investments are still climbing in North Carolina, thanks to smart private investors and enthusiastic support from Gov. Stein and elected leaders in local governments around the state.
