Dear Friends,
As the budget process continues in the legislature, we took the time last night to honor a number of dedicated public servants who strive to protect North Carolina’s environment at our seventh annual Green Tie Awards dinner. Our keynote speaker, John Campbell from WasteZero, spoke on the need to limit the production of solid waste and described his company’s innovative solution to this problem. Apart from our award winners, which are listed below, the event commended Representative Tom Murry and past rising star award winner Representative Ruth Samuelson for their continued hard work in defending the environment in North Carolina’s General Assembly, especially their actions in stopping the push to repeal The Renewable Portfolio Standard. We thank them, the award winners, and all those in the legislature and community who recognize the need for a strong conservation movement.
- 2013 Defender of the Environment – Representative Deborah Ross – Awarded for her consistent willingness to defend against bad environmental legislation, the pollution lobby, and her commitment to taking a strong stand to defend our communities against environmental degradation.

The HotList is a weekly email the North Carolina League of Conservation Voters (NCLCV) sends out during session where we talk about relevant legislation and share information on key environmental issues as they come before the General Assembly. While primarily intended for elected representatives, the HotList is also made public to any and all who are concerned about the environment.
